Back Home, Tired, Honored, But Digging In

Well, I’m back home and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the entire ConGlomeration staff for everything!  I wanted for nothing and had a really great time!  In particular, I would like to thank Kyle Thomas, the ConGlomeration art show coordinator, who managed to keep things running, be in ten places at once, answer a thousand questions and still have a smile on his face.  His efforts were tremendous and these mere thanks seem far too meager for everything he’s done.  I’d also like to thank the judges of the art show who found my painting “First Born” worthy of the title Best in Show.  I am truly honored by their generosity and again find my thanks to be insufficient.

At this point, I feel the need to mention the awards at ConGlomeration and the trophies that accompany them.  ConGlomeration is blessed to have Scott Webb sculpt their trophies every year and they are truly amazing.  Each trophy is tied thematically to the award they represent (Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Monochrome, 3-D and Best in Show), and new ones are sculpted each year so that no two pieces are ever the same.  I’ve been told that artists send their work in to the con’s art show from far and wide just to have a chance at winning one of these sculptures, and I believe it.  They are by far the coolest trophies I’ve ever seen awarded at a convention and I am honored to give one of them a home.

As an aside, I’ve gotten word on what precisely got into Spectrum 17 this year: "Badass."  Once again, I’m very honored and I’m proud to have that piece represent me in the upcoming book, due out in October.

This year will be the busiest travel-wise I’ve ever had – with a total of seven appearances scheduled.  I have three under my belt and have reached the first hiatus in my business travel schedule.  I now have one, final push in the coming week before going on the first true vacation I’ve had in three years...joy!
